It’s about time that New York’s most prestigious neighborhood inspired a watch worthy of its name.

Columbus Circle is at the epicenter of everything that makes New York great. Central Park, Lincoln Center, Broadway, and some of the most exclusive shopping in Manhattan are all located with walking distance of this historic monument, which was erected on the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus landing in the Americas.

It is only fitting that master watchmaker Gevril, which has named each of its exclusive collections for well-known Manhattan locations, is now honoring Columbus Circle with a fabulous new timepiece that bears the name of this major landmark marking the spot where all official measurements of New York City are measured.

The Gevril Columbus Circle, like it’s New York namesake, is where another important official measurement will soon be made. This spectacular 44mm timepiece is how watch aficionados will soon be measuring the time!

Each watch in the Columbus Circle Collection features a beautifully unique dial that incorporates the seven astrological symbols for the days of the week. This easy-to-read dial is available in several color combinations that show both day and date at a glance using one of the most artful presentations ever produced in a modern day timepiece.

On the back of this unique watch is a commemorative engraving of the statue of Christopher Columbus at the center of Columbus Circle, along with the limited edition watch’s unique edition number.

Powering this beauty is an ETA 2834/2 movement, based on the famous ETA 2824-2. This 25-jewel Swiss-made movement uses a hand-decorated Gevril rotor that is visible through a special porthole on the commemorative caseback.

The watch is sculpted from a block of solid 316L surgical stainless steel and features a scratch resistant, anti reflective sapphire crystal.

Like all precision Gevril timepieces, the production of the landmark Columbus Circle Collection will be strictly limited. According to Gevril founder Samuel Friedmann, the person who wears a Gevril watch wants something unique that is not over distributed. Pre-Baselworld 2012 Impressions

I can feel the excitement in the air here at the Baselworld 2012 watch and jewelry fair as the many watch brands continue to set up their booths. Every floor of every building is buzzing with activity and noises of hammering and drilling. There’s also the occasional sound of the ringing bell as the concession cart passes by as it makes its rounds. You can purchase an espresso and buttered pretzels if, of course, you’re willing invest six CHF for the experience.

There’s much work yet to be done to ready all the booths, but ready or not, the press preview is March 7, the day before Baselworld 2012 officially opens. The media will have an opportunity to view all the booths before the general public. There seem to be as many exhibit designs as there are timepiece styles, and the decor of the booths is really very creative. Although not permanent structures, many of the luxury booths have a very well-established fine look. I find it interesting to “watch” and see how each of the booths look once completed.

Inspired by the infamous crossroads of business and art, The Times Square Collection brings together classical and avant-garde design in a modern, limited-edition timepiece. The new Gevril collection is sleek and strong, with a fresh masculine design reminiscent of the Art Moderne movement.

The Times Square Collection will take you from boardroom to black-tie, yet is stylish enough to take you through favorite late-night indulgences whether in a downtown jazz club or other evening affair.

Gevril has incorporated the curved-case architecture of the Avenue of Americas watch into The Times Square Collection creating a secure, custom feel on the wrist.
