Just a few years ago watch diameters increased to suit modern tastes and some brands even experimented and expanded upon the trend with truly massive watches. Italian watch company Haurex was one of them. The three-handed Turbina measured in at a whopping 52 mm, and while the watch looked cool, only certain men could accommodate the size.

In the same family, the Turbina II keeps the masculine good looks of the Turbina and makes some aesthetic and functional changes. First off, the Turbina II now comes down to a more reasonable 48 mm. The watch is still large and maintains that characteristic and imposing presence, but now allows for wider audiences of men who liked the Turbina but couldn’t manage the extra 4 mm.

In a black IP coated stainless steel case, the Turbina II keeps the striking size of the Arabic numerals, which are beige, as well as the protective crown, except the crown mechanism has been moved from the left side of the case to the right, along with the chronograph pushers. A healthy amount of IP rose gold is integrated into the dial design beginning with the applied hour markers. The three primary hands, as well as the hands of the sub-dials, are also coated. Each hand (except for the second hand) is skeletonized in the center. The rotating disk of the 24-hour sub-dial and the frame of the retrograde sub-dial also feature IP rose gold.

Spider Senses Definitely Tingling

The distinctive design of the Haurex San Marco should be on every guy’s radar. It features a three-piece case made of anodized aluminum and stainless steel. The dial features a black spider-web pattern. Each watch in the San Marco collection has its own look with dial elements that match the color of the cases. This model, in fiery orange, is undoubtedly one of the coolest of the bunch.

The web pattern adds instant depth to the dial, which is further enhanced by hour markers and a numeral 12, all of which are applied “in relief,” or raised, above the web. An orange bar appears on each of the markers while the number 12 is outlined in orange.

Outside the markers, an outer 60-minute/second ring adds a sporty element. The seconds hand is orange, while the large dauphine-style hour and minute hands are made of polished steel and coated with luminous paint. HAUREX Italy is applied to the dial, as is a frame around the date window, both made of polished steel.

At 48 mm, the San Marco is big, with long wrist-hugging lugs that tell you straight away – this is a guys’ watch. The protective device over the crown adds to the look of this construction with its polished-steel arm affixed on either side by a screw. The crown itself is black steel with an orange ring through its center.

Wickedly sporty and highly functional, the San Marco is a good accompaniment for most anything, whether you’re at home or strolling through the famous streets of the San Marco district in Venice, Italy. The San Marco is water resistant to 330 feet and features an embossed silicon strap that is durable and versatile. The front crystal is made of mineral glass. Rose-gold is one of the hottest colors in modern watchmaking and the PREMIER showcases it front and center on hour markers, the chrono sub-dials and the hour and minute hands. The black enamel dial provides the perfect backdrop, with luster and contrast worthy of its golden accents.

The chronograph features a classic three sub-dial formation: the counter at 6 o’clock is for elapsed minutes and the counter at 3 o’clock records elapsed hours. The third sub-dial at 9 o’clock is a perpetual small-seconds counter, unrelated to the chrono. The central red sweeping-seconds hand performs the job of tracking seconds for the chronograph. Hour and minute hands are coated in luminous paint and the hands of the sub-dials are red for good legibility.

Haurex adds two more sport-centric features to give the PREMIER added versatility. The first is a tachymeter on the inner bezel, which measures speed in miles per hour by way of elapsed time. The second feature is a rotating dive bezel, also useful for calculating elapsed time, but the Haurex PREMIER is all sport in appearance.

The 43 mm polished-steel case features two carefully finished chrono pushers and a screw-in crown for a water-resistance rating of 165 feet. The crystal is mineral glass and the bracelet, also in polished steel, rounds out the watch’s masculine appeal with large links and a folding clasp. The robust quartz movement is made by Seiko.
