A Luxurious Take on Modern Vintage
The Avenue of the Americas, or Sixth Avenue, is a stately commercial thoroughfare that runs northbound through the heart of New York City. Among the numerous buildings that line the street are those of the famed Rockefeller Center, which include several of New York’s architectural gems built in the art deco style of the 1930s. Gevril captures the quintessential attributes of this design period with its Avenue of Americas line of watches – none more so than the Gevril 5110 Avenue of Americas.
One of the pinnacles in the Chronograph Collection, the Gevril 5110 is exclusive, bold and modern, with an unmistakable case and bezel made from 18K rose gold. The smooth chronograph pushers reiterate the polished beauty of the bezel. The case is 44 mm long by 34 mm wide and, like every Avenue of Americas watch, slightly curved to ensure it fits every wrist with supple comfort.
Silver-colored and multi-textured, the dial features guilloche engraving and numerals that are raised out of the dial metal, as opposed to painted or applied. This design provides an exquisite background for the numerous details. The chronograph has a central seconds hand and two sub-dial counters: a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. A closer look reveals that all three chronograph hands have eyelets (a subtle way of relating them to one another) while the perpetual seconds hands at 3 o’clock is in the form of a solid pin. Black numerals and indices on all of the counters provide excellent contrast.
Mechanically, the 5110 houses Gevril’s GV AOAWZ1, 51-jewel automatic chronograph movement based on an ETA 2824-2 and featuring a Dubois Dépraz 2020 chronograph module. In addition to customizing the bridges and the rotor, Gevril alters the chronograph pusher mechanism to accommodate the rectangular case. The movement can be viewed through the crystal of the exhibition caseback, which, like the front crystal, is made of scratch-resistant sapphire. The watch is water resistant to 160 feet and has a power reserve of 40 hours.
To finish this dignified timepiece, Gevril includes a brown Louisiana crocodile-leather strap and a matching 18K gold tang-style buckle personalized with the Gevril name. The Gevril Avenue of Americas Reference 5110 is limited to 100 pieces worldwide.
