As Fortis prepares for its 100th anniversary in 2012, the Swiss watch manufacturer is introducing new watch models that convey power and that are in line with the current trends toward bigger timepieces and watches with black dials.
One of them is the Fortis B-47 Big Black, an exceptional and unique timepiece. The B-47 Big Black, limited to 2012 pieces, features a wavelike jagged bezel, similar to that of the Fortis Marinemaster. The Big Black is truly an eye catcher.
The semitransparent dial of the Fortis Big Black offers an open view of the date and day disks — which are bilingual in German and English. In contrast, the watch’s skeletonized hands present a much more delicate appearance. The actual day shows in white letters at nine o’clock and the date at three o’clock. The remaining days can be seen in a grey shading under the dial. I think this is a totally unique feature that distinguishes the Big Black from all other timepieces I’ve seen. To round this off, a highly reliable and precise automatic ETA 2836-2 caliber ticks away inside the watch case.
Not only is this large steel black PVD case water resistant to 660 ft which makes it a perfect diving watch, it is a hefty large watch that makes a statement of strength and of power. In addition, I like that the sapphire crystal is anti-reflective on both sides, but that preference is probably personal, since I like to photograph watches, and this feature makes it much easier to get a good shot.
