Calibre is a company that specializes in sport watches for activities including sailing and diving. As a child, Fernando Alonso was a driving prodigy. Just a few years ago watch diameters increased to suit modern tastes and some brands even experimented and expanded upon the trend with truly massive watches. Italian watch company Haurex was one of them. The three-handed Turbina measured in at a whopping 52 mm, and while the watch looked cool, only certain men could accommodate the size.

Though Johan Eric is a relatively new player in the watch game, the Dane, who lives in Randers on Denmark’s Jutland Peninsula, has designed a winner with the Randers Stainless Steel Sunray Dial.

Haurex’s erudite mix of design, price and quality

The Magister series fuses a variety of elements together, skillfully pushing the boundaries of tradition while edging carefully toward its outer limits. A healthy amount of IP rose gold is integrated into the dial design beginning with the applied hour markers. The three primary hands, as well as the hands of the sub-dials, are also coated. Large, round cases paired with black dials is a predominant configuration in modern watchmaking. The large 46.5 mm stainless steel case and thick lugs are well proportioned with no extraneous flourishes. The fluted crown is the only protrusion. Oversize Arabic hour numerals and bar markers are also characteristic of a dive watch: they are easy to see underwater, especially with the contrast provided by the yellow on black elements. The surface of the dial is divided by concentric rings; a circle in the middle is surrounded by smooth rings and then by engraved rings below the hour markers. The solid yellow seconds hand tapers at the top while the hour and minute hands are obelisk-shaped, tapered and pointed at the top. A white 60-seconds and minutes track rounds the outside of the dial. The date window is partially open, a current fashion, with five digits on the wheel visible at one time. A yellow arrow beside the window points to the current date.

The lugs are wide, slightly rounded and solid in appearance. The lug width is 24 mm, which supports a wider strap that is an appropriate match given the substantial case size. The black leather calfskin strap with yellow parallel-stitch pattern completes the unified overall look. The tang buckle is made of stainless steel, as is the solid caseback. Serious Wheels

Fernando Alonso is a Spanish, two-time F1 racing World Champion and a current Viceroy ambassador. And who better to represent the Spain-based watch company than this stylish, young racing icon? One of the most distinctive elements of this watch is the way the two red lines in the central part of the dial combine to create the top and bottom shapes of an F1 steering wheel. Even more original is the way Viceroy integrates the circular date wheel so that it looks like the steering wheel’s left and right handlebars. The distinctive design of the Haurex San Marco should be on every guy’s radar. It features a three-piece case made of anodized aluminum and stainless steel. The dial features a black spider-web pattern. Each watch in the San Marco collection has its own look with dial elements that match the color of the cases. Rose-gold is one of the hottest colors in modern watchmaking and the PREMIER showcases it front and center on hour markers, the chrono sub-dials and the hour and minute hands. The black enamel dial provides the perfect backdrop, with luster and contrast worthy of its golden accents.

The chronograph features a classic three sub-dial formation: the counter at 6 o’clock is for elapsed minutes and the counter at 3 o’clock records elapsed hours.
