Going into its 10th season the police procedural Criminal Minds is getting a fresh face and character with Jennifer Love Hewitt joining the cast alongside Joe Mantegna and Shemar Moore. Starting in October, she will be introduced to audiences playing FBI agent Kate Callahan, whose work has gotten her an invitation to the coveted Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). The unit tracks the most dangerous criminal minds, studying them in attempts to stop them from wreaking terror and havoc on the public. These people are referred to as unsubs or “unknown subjects”.

Though one of the younger agents, Hewitt’s character Callahan is wise and savvy from her eight years on the force. She has a background in criminal psychology and works from the heart to make the world a safer place. In her backstory, Callahan has endured a lot of personal loss that makes her not only an ardent patriot but also a nurturing person.

Hewitt started her career out in commercials but vaulted to the public’s attention with her role on the popular television series Party of Five. She later achieved stardom on the screen with the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. In addition to acting, Hewitt is also a writer, director and producer. This talented actress even sings. Atlantic Records and Jive Records both have signed her to their labels in the pop genre. Her most successful single thus far was the 1999 release How Do I Deal.

Actors obviously create their characters through behavior but wardrobe, including accessories, also contributes to defining a character. Callahan reveals her more feminine side by the watch she chooses to wear. Around her wrist is the Gevril Avenue of Americas Glamour model 6209NE. Criminal Minds has been a hit since debuting on CBS in September 2005, and it’s no small part due to the acting talents of Joe Mantegna. Although Mantegna joined the cast in the show’s third year, after the departure of Mandy Patinkin who played Senior Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Jason Gideon, he took over the big responsibility of being the headliner responsible for carrying a large part of the show.

Mantegna plays David Rossi, another Senior Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) voluntarily returning to the team after taking early retirement from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) for personal projects. A highly experienced profiler, he was one of the original members of the unit. During his hiatus he wrote books and did the lecture circuit discussing criminal analysis.

Criminal Minds is what’s classified as a police procedural program. What makes it different is the focus. While most, if not all, procedurals focus on solving the crime, Criminal Minds puts their attention to profiling the dangerous criminal referred to as the unsub or “unknown subject”—and these people have really twisted minds.

Off the Criminal Minds set, Mantegna is a busy guy with a multi-faceted career. He works in television, film and stage, having appeared in David Mamet’s play Glengarry Glen Ross, for which he won a Tony. He’s acted in films including The Godfather Part III, Bugsy and Searching for Bobby Fischer, and he voiced characters in The Simpsons and Cars 2. But his talent doesn’t stop there, he’s also a musician who played in a band that eventually went on to form the group Chicago. By that time, Mantegna had left the band to pursue his acting career.

Fans, however, get their biggest dose of Mantegna weekly on Criminal Minds where, when he’s not profiling the bad guys, you can see he’s definitely having a ball with the crew and his co-stars on the set.

If you’re a network, producer, critic or actor in television, then the place to be is at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour in July. Here the networks announce their new shows and schedules in the never-ending race to be the ratings king. During this time the press has the opportunity to interview the players, including the creators, writers and stars of the show all in one place. And with announcements come the parties.

On July 17, CBS/CW and Showtime were the hosts, where Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna and Shemar Moore came out to have some fun. The show is about a group of profilers who keep tabs on dangerous criminals in order to anticipate and stop them before they strike again.

Veteran actor Mantegna plays David Rossi, an FBI BAU Supervisory Special Agent who came out of early retirement to rejoin the BAU. Mantegna is a multi-talent who acts, writes, produces, plays music and even does voice work, most notably for The Simpsons as Fat Tony.

As usual Mantegna was a good sport with the press, answering questions and posing for pictures. He looked dapper wearing a suit with an open collar. Around his wrist was spotted a Fortis B-42 Diver watch to complement his outfit.

Mantegna mugged it up with co-star Shemar Moore in some fun pictures posing as if they were holding guns (top of page). As FBI BAU Supervisory Special Agent Derek Morgan on “Criminal Minds”, Moore is a black belt in judo and runs FBI self-defense classes in addition to his profiling work. Before landing the role on Criminal Minds Moore worked as a model and was a regular on The Young and the Restless .

Like his buddy Mantegna, Moore is press friendly and had a good time at the party, posing for pictures and granting interviews. His style of dress differed from Mantegna’s. He was more street cool in a black short-sleeved shirt with a leather vest over it and a black hat. Like Mantegna, he also sported a watch, a GV2 Fiamme.

Joe Mantegna might not get the pubic attention of a Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt or Bradley Cooper, but the actor has got the chops and talent to compete with the best of them. He’s a true actor, not a superstar, rather someone who can disappear into a role and sometimes not be recognized and therefore he can play a range of genres from comedy to drama.

Such is Mantegna’s talent that he has been cast in the comedy Airheads as a harried shock jock and an incompetent kidnapper in Baby’s Day Out. Drawing upon his Italian heritage, he brought to life Joey Zasa, a monstrous mobster in The Godfather Part III. And yes, he sings too, playing Dean Martin in The Rat Pack on HBO, for which his was nominated for an Emmy. Many might not know that Mantegna first went in front of an audience on the stage in the 1969 production of Hair.

Joe Mantegna and acclaimed playwright and screenwriter David Mamet have a long time working relationship, with Joe appearing in such productions as Glengarry Glen Ross, for which he won a Tony, the film House of Games and the TV series Homicide. Mantegna has also been tapped to work with some of the most talented directors in the business, such as Francis Ford Coppola, Barry Levinson, Steven Zaillian and Woody Allen.

Fans of The Simpsons will know him as the voice of mob boss Anthony “Fat Tony” D’Amico. Mantegna loves this role so much that he will voice the character no matter how little dialogue. He has said that it if Fat Tony sneezes, I want to be there.

More than just an actor, Joe Mantegna possesses some other surprising talents and achievements. He’s a writer who co-wrote and played a role in the Emmy award winning play Bleacher Bums, which later went on to play at Chicago’s Organic Theater Company in Mantegna’s home state of Illinois. In addition, he’s musician. A bass player, Joe played in a band called the Apocryphals, which later joined another group called The Missing Links. And here’s the kicker: that group went on to form the well-known group Chicago, but by that time Mantegna had left the band to pursue acting full time. Mantegna still maintains relationships with his old band mates, however.

For his illustrious career, Mantegna received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Los Angeles Italian Film Festival in 2004.

It’s tough to be a movie star with a career spanning almost 30 years. Most stars have their day and flame out to the annals of history, but Kevin Costner possesses a rare longevity that has kept him in the public spotlight.

He first became “famous” for being left on the cutting room floor of the classic Lawrence Kasdan film “The Big Chill”. He was supposed to be in the flashbacks but got left on the cutting room floor, only his hair and wrists visible. Kasdan promised Costner there would be another opportunity to show his talents when he made another film and that was in the cult classic Western “Silverado” in 1985. This is where Costner really came to the attention of Hollywood as the charismatic ladies’ man Jake.

After “Silverado” Costner had gained momentum, taking on the role of federal agent Eliot Ness in Brian DePalma’s “The Untouchables”, followed by the suspenseful thriller “No Way Out”. Teaming up with director Ron Shelton, Costner scored big with the public in the baseball movie “Bull Durham” as a philosophical and brainy player who lacks the talent of his dimwitted teammate played by Tim Robbins but gets the girl (Susan Sarandon) anyway. This movie solidified Costner as an A-list player and gave him the coveted control to pick and choose projects.

Other starring acting parts followed but Costner’s newfound status allowed him to direct for the first time with the epic film “Dances with Wolves”, which he produced, starred and also won an Academy Award for Best Director.

When his feature film stardom waned a bit, Costner turned to television to showcase his talents where he won many awards including a Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe for his role as Devil Anse Hatfield in “Hatfields & McCoys”. But Costner’s talents aren’t just limited to acting. He’s the lead singer in the country rock band Kevin Costner & Modern West, performing all over the world. While a lot of actor’s forays into the music scene aren’t well received, Costner’s album “Untold Truths” reached No. 61 on the Billboard Top Country Albums and No. 35 on the Top Heatseekers charts.

Costner’s big screen popularity has resurged in recent years with a trifecta of starring roles in films released in 2014: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, 3 Days to Kill and Draft Day. For his contributions to entertainment Costner was given the honor of setting his hand and footprints in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood in 2006.

Mario Andretti was honored for a lifetime of achievement by the National Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame. As a teen, Andretti came to America from post-World War II Italy, and went on to reach the pinnacle of auto racing, garnering worldwide fame.

During a career that has spanned four decades, Andretti was a Formula One, Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500 winner. He also won 33 times in IndyCar, and 19 in CART. Andretti remains the only driver to capture the Indy 500, Daytona 500 and the Formula One championships, and is one of only two drivers to win in Formula One, Indy car racing, NASCAR and the World Sports Car Championship.

73 and still one of the most recognizable names in sports, Andretti said being voted into the NMPA Hall of Fame was one of the highlights of his career. “You get that beautiful call and then it gives you a chance to pause and look back at everything that has happened to you, to count your blessings,” he said. “The greatest compliment is your work has been acknowledged, and this is what it’s all about.”

Andretti was awarded the traditional plaque and grey NMPA jacket. “Quite honestly, when some of these invitations still appear, it’s the ultimate compliment that can be paid to you,” said Andretti. “It’s because somehow they still are looking at your career after all the years.”

“I count my blessings every day because I’ve been so, so fortunate to have a long career and be able to meet so many incredible people along the way – and some of them are in this room,” he said. “I look back with no regrets whatsoever.… to be able to have a long career like I have… it allowed me to retire on my own terms.”

Randy Jackson may have resigned from his job as a judge, but he will be part of some interesting and exciting new twists on the new season of American Idol. According to FOX, Jackson has stepped into a new role where he will mentor contestants on the show.

Jackson was a longtime judge and has been a part of the American Idol vocal talent competition since its inception in 2002. He announced he was leaving the show at the end of the last season. However, he will still be vitally influential to the contestants, albeit in a different capacity.

“There’s a new role for Randy this year, it’s a sort of Randy Jackson workshop,” says Idol executive producer Trish Kinane. Randy is going to be hosting a new round that will represent a two-day workshop between the contenders and Jackson, “where the kids who got through to the live show have an education, if you like, in song choices, personal style and other things … where they can discover things about themselves.”

Jackson is replacing Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine, who left the show due to some internal issues that also influenced the resignations of judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, as well as executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick.

Randy Jackson is more than qualified to mold the promising young musicians who come through the American Idol competition. While Jackson is most well-known for being an American Idol judge, Jackson has recorded, produced, or toured with many well-known artists and bands, ranging from Mariah Carey to ‘N Sync, Whitney Houston, Céline Dion, and Madonna.

During the Novak Djokovic Foundation Gala Dinner in New York City, Randy Jackson expressed his excitement about his new role, and his feelings about the 2014 season of American Idol: “I’ve moved to the higher court now.”

Artist and actor Federico Castelluccio is a highly accomplished celebrity whose achievements in both theater and fine arts make him a creative force to be reckoned with. Castelluccio translates his aesthetic into varying mediums and applications, thereby showcasing his talent and style in Hollywood and beyond.

Castelluccio: The Actor

Federico Castelluccio is best known for his role as the Neapolitan Enforcer, Furio Giunta, on the HBO TV series, The Sopranos. The iconic and acclaimed series starred the late James Gandolfini, whom Castelluccio called “one of the greatest actors of our time” during an appearance on the Today Show with Matt Lauer.

Castelluccio was also featured in Made alongside Jon Favreau, NYPD Blue, and Diary of a Hitman with Danny Aiello. Castelluccio developed his acting talents in summer stock, off-off-Broadway, and various Shakespeare festivals during the mid-’80s, eventually signing on with the Flock and Eclectic theater companies.

Perhaps less known, yet no less impressive, Castelluccio is also an internationally renowned visual artist, and received a full presidential scholarship to the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Before becoming an actor, Federico Castelluccio first rose to fame as an award-winning illustrator when actor George Burns personally commissioned him to paint his portrait. Burns was so impressed with Castelluccio that he recommended him to executives at PBS and ABC. His paintings have been praised for their exceptional quality and demonstration of high-level technical ability.

During the fourth season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump asked Castelluccio to judge a celebrity hat design competition. He chose La Toya Jackson, who won $25,000 for her charity, the AIDS Project Los Angeles.

When Harrison Ford needed a space proven timepiece for his role as Colonel Gaff in the science fiction thriller Ender’s Game, he picked a watch that has actually been there.

Ender’s Game, scheduled to be released in theaters throughout the United States on November 1, is the story of a young boy who has the future of the entire human race on his shoulders. When Earth is invaded by a race of aliens called the Formics, it is decided that the best hope for survival lies with child prodigies like Andrew “Ender” Wiggin who have been trained from an early age in an elite battle school orbiting the earth to command the earth’s international fleet in a desperate battle for survival.

Is it any surprise that the best time travel movie of 2012
turned to Edox for the film’s signature timepieces?

Looper, a new movie set in the year 2074, depicts a future world where time travel has been invented but immediately outlawed. As is often the case with outlawed practices, it is the outlaws themselves who end up using time travel for their own purposes. To dispose of bodies secretly, crime bosses sent their victims into the past, where hired guns, called “Loopers” dispose of them.

In 2009 Chris recorded his DVD Live in Boston at the Zeiterion, so this event had special meaning for him. Rolling Stones backup singer Lisa Fischer joined Mr. Botti to help bring a variety of music styles into the performance. He performed songs from his most recent album Impressions which featured an amazing cast of musicians including Andrea Bocelli, Vince Gill and Herbie Hancock to name few.

When a watch company signs an ambassador to promote its watches, the individual usually becomes associated with models within previously established collections. Less often, a collection is named after the actual ambassador and designed with him or her in mind, which is the case with Viceroy’s Fernando Alonso collection.

Fernando Alonso is a two-time F1 racing World Champion. The young Spanish racing icon currently drives for Scuderia Ferrari and is among the very best drivers in the world. Born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez to immigrant parents in Dayton Ohio, his affinity for both acting, as well as political activism was evident from a young age. At 14 while working as a golf caddy, he organized a strike of all golf caddies due to the mean and foul language he and his co-workers endured from the clubs members. He felt that men of such esteem and position should not be using “abusive and anti-Semitic” language in front of the young boys. Later he would go on to achieve renown not only for his acting prowess but for his more than 60 arrests for civil disobedience in support of issues ranging from apartheid, racism, homelessness to nuclear testing.

Although his father was against his desire to pursue acting, Sheen decided to give it a go. At the early age of 20, he borrowed money from a Catholic priest and moved to New York with hopes of making it in theater. Casting director Robert Dale Martin, with whom he received his first break into the industry, inspired his adoption of the stage name Martin Sheen.

Sheen quickly found success on stage as well as television but his real rise to stardom came in 1973 starring in the crime drama; Badlands. Sheen later gained worldwide recognition as Captain Willard in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. His acting excellence has earned him a Golden Globe and 2 SAG awards for his role as President Bartlett in The West Wing, as well as an Emmy for his guest appearances in the sitcom Murphy Brown.

Fame and fortune do not come without a price and for Martin Sheen much of that price was paid by his family. For his children, being raised by a father who often times ruled their lives under the influence of alcohol and drugs has left indelible scars that remain to this day. Most evident is its effect on son, Charlie. An A-list actor in his own right, Charlie has led a roller coaster life of great success in his career and, unfortunately, devastating failure in his personal affairs.

Somewhere in the not so distant past Gevril Group’s Steven Jay had the chance to meet with Martin in Los Angeles during a photo-shoot for WatchTime Magazine. The shoot was for a feature in which Mr. Sheen was wearing his Gevril Avenue of Americas timepiece. Steven asked him for some parenting advice. Mr. Sheen was candid and explained, “If I had the chance to do it over again I would not have been so hard on my children physically, emotionally and spiritually.”

Second chances are becoming a reality for Martin Sheen as he assumes the on screen role of Charlie’s father in the hit FX comedy Anger Management. FX recruited the veteran actor in an attempt to transform the show into a multi-generational program that would attract a larger audience. For the Sheens it will be a time for healing, for the fans it will be a chance to be entertained by a father and son who happen to be two great actors while they do what they do best: act.

After graduating from Barnard College in 1954 with a BA in both English Literature and Anthropology, she hopped from job to job trying to find her niche. She worked as a Tour Guide at Rockefeller Center, a proofreader and as a fashion consultant. It was agent Tony Rivers that suggested she adopt a new last name to support her desire for a career in acting.

She began her career in New York Theater during the late 1950’s and transitioned into television during the early 1960’s. She made her first television appearance on The Tonight Show, when Jack Paar hosted the program. Soon after, Johnny Carson replaced Mr. Paar and made Joan the first sole guest of the show.

It proved to be the propulsion that would take her career to the next level. She would later go on to host her own talk shows; The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers and The Joan Rivers Show for which she won her first Emmy, in 1989.

In addition to being one of the worlds most famous comedians, Joan Rivers is a also a woman of fabulous style, so much so that she is regularly found on “Best Dressed” lists from around the world. From 1996 thru 2007 she found herself putting those fashion skills to good use. She hosted, alongside her daughter Melissa, the “Red Carpet” pre-award shows for E!, and was a reporter of celebrity fashion for TV Guide. Well known French racing driver Stéphane Sarrazin may not drive a French car, but he definitely does wear a French watch.

There’s More to the Victor Cruz than Football and Salsa

Most people think of Victor Cruz as the Superbowl champion New York Giants wide receiver who salsa dances in the end zone, so some were surprised to see him this week at the New York Fashion Week launch and to learn more about his Young Whales clothing brand launch.

At Gevril Group, we weren’t at all surprised! We’ve known for a while that Victor Cruz has a great sense of style and fashion. A few months ago, Victor Cruz joined Ferragamo Timepieces USA President Paul Ziff at a Ferragamo GQ event to help fund prostate cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

The bright red building that houses GTE can be seen from far away. It’s located not very far from both SIHH and Geneva Airport. There is parking by the entrance to the building, which is very convenient. Walking through the entrance, there’s a counter at the left where you pick up your entrance ticket.

One needs to obtain an invitation from one of the exhibiting watchmakers. I was lucky enough to have been invited by Quinting, an old watchmaking firm known for invisible movements. Many famous people including American presidents have worn Quinting. I know that President Bill Clinton wore a Quinting, as did UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and actor Gérard Depardieu.

RGM, one of the few American watchmakers, was also presenting their new timepieces. I had a long and very pleasant conversation about their watches with company founder Roland Murphy. The latest RGM watch is derived from an airplane clock, positioned behind the watch in the picture.

Last but not least, I discovered Reuge, a Basel-based mechanical music manufacturer who is worldwide renowned, exhibited some great pieces.

I wanted to give you a brief look at this interesting watch fair, which some consider a side event of the larger SIHH fair. However, I do not think that it’s just a side event, as there are quite a number of attractive watch presentations there. I very much enjoyed my visit to GTE.

Now, I have my sights set on Baselworld 2012 coming in March. Hope to see you there!

This year, Italian fashion house Valentino, global fashion leader for almost half a century, and Ben Stiller, star of Meet The Fockers, Night At the Museum, Zoolander, and other famous comedy films, joined forces to raise money for disadvantaged children around the world.

Making its debut September 8, 2011, the Valentino “T-Shirt Couture for the Stiller Foundation” signature t-shirt is a beautiful way to support programs designed to help all children reach their fullest potential. The Valentino Stiller Foundation t-shirt is a delicately designed piece made from nude stretch jersey with lace detail. The Stiller Foundation, founded in 2010 by American comedic actor Ben Stiller, says that their primary objective is “to promote the education and well-being of children worldwide through initiatives that focus on education.” Ben Stiller is the son of American comedians and actors Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.

Since its inception, the Stiller Foundation has focused primarily on providing educational opportunities for children in Haiti through the construction of schools through the Haitian School Initiative, an effort to aid children affected by the earthquake of January 2010.

Valentino has actively supported charities and causes through benefit events throughout the brand’s history. This unique fundraiser is in line with the “modern evolution,” orchestrated by Chiuri and Piccioli since they took over as designers for Valentino in 2009, subsequent to the retirement of founder Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani.
