Traditions Renewed
New is old, and old is new again. Thus is the nature of fashion. Pulling the appropriate elements from previous designs and re-crafting them into something new is the art of the matter, and the designers at Glam Rock have a knack for doing it well.
The Glam Rock women’s two-tone model GR28031 from the Vintage Glam collection has several distinct characteristics that are interwoven to create a look that at once swoops back in time, but also stands firmly as a design for the here and now.
An oval case, measuring 40 x 30 mm, combined with orbicular teardrop lugs is the basis for this watch’s luxurious silhouette. The case is made of stainless steel and coated with yellow gold IP. Glam Rock’s familiar onion-style crown protrudes attractively.
Within the form-conscious casing is a white enamel dial, at the center of which is a textured pattern of dimpled diamonds. The centrally mounted, decorative hour and minute hands are coated in yellow gold IP to match the case. The Glam Rock font, used in the brand logo and to inscribe the dial with the collection name, is a script with throwback appeal. Large, black Roman numerals encircle the perimeter, surrounded in turn by a railroad track minute scale at the outmost edge of the dial.
A notable aside is the deference Glam Rock shows in its use of Roman numerals. Most watch brands replace the Roman numeral IV (four) with IIII, generally to create a visual balance with the opposing numeral VIII. But watches in the Vintage Glam collection use the correct IV in the 4 o’clock position – point scored for being faithful to the Roman numeric system and bucking an erroneous trend.
Watches in the Vintage Glam collection are offered with several different types of bracelets and straps. The one chosen for this model is an integrated-link bracelet in trendy two-tone stainless steel and yellow gold IP. It closes by way of a deployant clasp. Not only does the bracelet match up well with the case in coloring, it also provides contrast: the case has antique qualities whereas the bracelet is quite modern.
A polycarbonate mineral crystal fronts the case and the watch is water resistant to 165 feet. Inside, a Ronda 762 Swiss quartz movement keeps things beating. Like other Glam Rock watches, the GR28031 is Swiss made.
